About Finnoybu.com

Finnoybu.com was designed to present the memoirs of Olavus Vullum Bjornson Vestbo (aka Olaus Wullum/William Bjornsen Vestboe/Westbo) to the public community at large, free of charge* and in a multilingual format. The original manuscript, which has yet to be located, was written in the author's native Nynorsk and later translated to English by descendant B. C. Berge. The manuscript used in the Finnoybu.com memoirs is based on this English version.

Our Vision

So that we may reach the largest possible sampling of the author's descendants (our primary audience), it is our goal, with the assistance of volunteers, family members, and other interested parties, to have the entire content of the site translated into the six primary Scandinavian laguages:

• Danish/Dansk
• Finnish/Suomi
• Faroese/Foroyskt
• Icelandic/Islenska
• Norwegian/Norsk
• Swedish/Svenska.

Ultimately, we hope to recover a copy of the original manuscript so that we may provide a more accurate picture of events in the author's own words.

Additionally, efforts are being made to continue the work of our "resident genealogist", V. D. Westbo, in tracing and documenting the author's lineage for family records and historical posterity. To date, with nearly seven full generations confirmed, we have uncovered possible links dating as far back as the legends of Norse mythology: Búri, Auðumbla, Ymir, and the vastness of Ginnungagap. While we have little hope of ever confirming a descendancy from the Norse gods, we will continue to explore the history of Norse mythology for the sole fact that it is Viking nature to explore.
